Morocco Plans Zakat Fund
Morocco makes advancements regarding the establishment of a national zakat fund. The proposition of the idea was made by the late King Hassan II, when he noted the necessity for an entity responsible for collecting alms. However, his idea never came to be implemented. According to the Minister Delegate of General Affairs and Governance - Najib Boulif - currently the Islamic Affairs Ministry is working on preparations for such a fund. The next step would be for the government to examine implementation mechanisms. Due to the very difficult situation in economy, stakeholders reached unanimous agreement upon the necessity to expand the practice of zakat.
